If you are a tech enthusiast like me, then you know about the factors that need to be considered when choosing a smartwatch for your exact needs. I have written a few articles in this blog explaining how to make the right decision when selecting a smartwatch.
Today I am going to share my experience with the Huawei Watch 2 (sports model).
There are two versions of the Huawei Watch 2 namely the classic model and the sports model.
The sports model comes with a built-in fitness tracker. That is why I chose it. Moreover, a SIM card can be put into the Huawei Watch 2 sports model. Hence it can have a separate independent network connection without help from the smartphone.
Here is the package I received which contains the Huawei smartwatch.
The device has a sporty look. Inside the box, you can find the smartwatch, paperwork, a charging dock (USB power in, magnetic dock to hold the watch when charging), and a wall adaptor.
Now let’s talk about the first-time user experience with this device. When powering on the device, you will be able to see the Android wear operating system along with the Huawei logo. If you wish to connect this smartwatch with your smartphone then you need to download the Android wear application (from the Google Play Store Apple app store) and install it. Make sure to grant all the necessary permissions such as messaging, making calls, and contact access to the smartwatch. Otherwise, you won’t be able to enjoy the full capabilities of this device.
I found some attractive designs for the smartwatch inside the Android wear application. There is an application called Huawei wear (Google Play Store Apple app store). This application is recommended if you are using you are smartwatch as a fitness tracker.
The external parts of the watch are made of plastic. There are two buttons to the right side of the device. The topmost button can be used as the power button, menu access button, or the Google assistant activator. The other button acts as the shortcut for the fitness tracker application.
If you want to change the watch faces just swipe it to the right. When you swipe down the shortcut menu will be displayed. If you want to see the notifications (missed calls, messages, and social media notifications) you should swipe up.
The weight of this device is about 50 grams and I feel it’s a little bit bulky. Anyway, the straps of this device can be changed easily.
If you look at the back of the watch you can see the charging connector and the heart rate sensor of the smartwatch.
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the special feature of this smartwatch is the support to have a SIM card. the SIM tray (nano-SIM) can be accessed after removing the stripe at the bottom.
Once you insert a SIM card into this, you will be able to make calls or send messages without any help from the smartphone.
Accordingly, you can see that this smartwatch can be used in three ways.
- Method 1: You can connect it to your smartphone and sync devices to access some of the functions of the mobile phone through your smartwatch.
- Method 2: Insert sim into the smartwatch and use it as a separate independent device (with separate network connectivity).
- Method 3: Using the device as a normal watch (you just need to switch on the “watch mode” in this device). In this mode, I can only see the time and count the steps.
Since this device is powered by the Android wear operation system, you will find it very easy to configure and access the application search you wish. There are many supported applications (you can download them and install them based on what you need).
Based on my experience this device can be used as a good fitness tracker. It is capable of tracking major physical activities (such as counting steps) and provide a summary at the end of each activity.
By default, this device supports Google assistant. I see this as a plus point. It makes it easier to use the device.
The display of the smartwatch can be configured in various ways. It can be turned on when you turn your hand or when you double-tap the surface.
The pixel density of this device is 390 x 390 (pixel density is density). The smartwatch has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 chipset, 4GB internal memory, and 768 MB RAM. A G-sensor, a compass, a heart rate sensor, a barometer, a capacity sensor, and an ambient light sensor is included in this device.
The battery capacity is 420mAh (based on my experience this is enough for about 1.5 days of usage). Time taken to fully charge the device is about 1.5 hours.
Now I have given you all the necessary information about Huawei Watch 2 (sports model). It’s time to share your thoughts with me in the comment section.
