A Closer Look at the Oppo Smartwatch

A few days back, I was able to purchase a brand new Oppo Smart Watch. Hence I thought of sharing some of my findings about the product and why I chose it.

Oppo Smart Watch comes in two different sizes (based on the screen size).

  • Version 1: 46 x 39 x 11.4 mm (I’ll refer to this as 46mm version hereafter)
  • Version 2: 41.5 x 36.4 x 11.4 mm (I’ll refer to this as 41mm version hereafter)

The watch I own is a 46mm version. It supports both Wi-Fi and LTE modes. The other version (41 mm) only supports Wi-Fi mode only.

For me, the 46mm version provides a better user experience since it has a screen of 1.91 inches. The 41mm version has a 1.6 inches screen. If you are hoping to use your watch to read messages, type replies then it’s better to go for the device with a large screen as it is more convenient.

If you buy a brand new watch from an authorized retailer, you will be able to find the watch, a charging cable, and the user manual in the box. Since the device supports Bluetooth 4.2, you can pair it with any external speaker, earphone, or mobile phone with ease.

There are 2 buttons on the device. The topmost button can be used to access the menu and as the “Go back” button. The other button will give you access to the workout menu. It consists of options for fitness run, fat burn run, outdoor walk, and swimming. A heart rate sensor can be found in the back of the device. It helps me to track my heart rate while I exercise. Moreover, the sleep tracker helps me understand how I am spending time for sleep.

The Oppo Smart Watch is powered by the Android Wear OS (operating system). Due to this, it gives us more options for us to install some applications from the Google play store. This makes it even more convenient to connect the watch with your Andriod or Apple smartphone.

To me, the Oppo Smart Watch offers a premium look for the price I paid. The AMOLED touchscreen, the frame, and the straps are a good combination.

Here are some notable differences between the 46mm version and 41mm version.

The display of the 46mm version is made as AMOLED flexible dual-curved display while the 41mm version is made as a plain AMOLED display. There is a 430mAh battery (approximately 36 hours of usage) in the 46mm version while the 41mm version is powered with a 300mAh battery (approximately 24 hours of usage).

The 46mm version of the Oppo Smart Watch has a 402 x 476-pixel display while the 41mm version is occupied with a 320 x 360-pixel display.

Since the watch has a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the speed and responsiveness of the device seem really acceptable (as a normal user).

Both versions of the smartwatch (46mm and 41mm) do not support to have a memory card. Only the internal memory can be used as storage. As a user, I would prefer to have a memory card witing the watch as an emergency storage device (but this might differ from one person to another).

Another good point is that I can have Google Assistant with the smartwatch. This makes it easier to interact with the device even while driving.

Based on my experience, the device will fully charge within 30-40 minutes. If the charging time can be reduced, that would be really helpful for our busy schedule. Since the watch is water-resistant, I can wear it even while I am doing watersport.

I hope to use this as my primary watch for the next couple of months. For now, it seems OK for me.

Now it’s your time to share your thoughts with me. What do you think of this smartwatch? Leave a comment and let me know!
